The State Opening of Parliament 2023 Open Thread
Moderator's Note: Let's try and keep the discussion away from the politics of this event and focus on the ceremonial.
The King recently performed the State Opening of Parliament, one of his most important political roles, where he reads the King's Speech (the first in over 70 years), setting out government policy for the current Parliament.
It is probably the last speech of this government, as there will be an election next year, and polls are indicating a new party will win.
Politics aside, there's a ton of fascinating and esoteric state ceremony involved in the opening. It's always fascinating to watch - and it's historical to watch Charles do it for the first time at King (he has delivered the speech before in the Queen's place).
