I've really only got Netflix so Marcella, Happy Valley and Broadchurch are my top 3 but are all extremely dark. I watched Marcella and then closed my curtains and slept with the light on.
There are so many: light and enjoyable but the best are deeper and darker; Foyle's War, Silent Witness, Shetland, Morse triad, Spooks, Sherlock Holmes and Poirot etc. The thing about British dramas is that they give you time to absorb the impact of a situation rather than a quick cut to the next scene, unlike the US productions.
Love MANHUNT, LONDON KILLS, NO OFFENCE, SCOTT AND BAILY, INSPECTER LYNLEY, HAPPY VALLEY, BROADCHURCH, MIDSOMERS MURDERS (scenery is gorgeous), INSPECTOR MOORSE, and many, many more
My show of the moment is The Mind of JG Reeder. It's an ITV show from the late Sixties-early Seventies, based on stories by Edgar Wallace. Hugh Burden plays the mild mannered employee at the Department of Public Prosecutions.
The Beeb's big Sunday night draw currently is Vigil. Murder, espionage and submarines from the Line of Duty crowd. Surane Jones leads an impressive cast.
Shaun Evans is double dipping. He's the coxswain in Vigil and is back as Endeavour on ITV at the sametime.
Prime Suspect, Helen Mirren's, Vera, Spooks, The Sweeney, endless. London Spy, The Hour, all the Catherine Cookson's, the P.D. James' adaptations. Etc.
Right now I am watching Holby City, dreading it coming to an end after almost 30 years. I love that show, a hospital soap in prime time, and thinking about the cast and crew wrapping up, they did by Christmas, is so depressingly sad. Anyone else in this forum who watches and cares, please find @SaveHolbyCity's petition at Change.org. Cheers.
I also love classic British movies and subscribe to BFI via Amazon Prime. Or watch them on the Criterion Channel, or TCM, or HBOMAX. Hitchcock, Ronald Neanes, so very many. Amazing directors and writers and actors.
Following this I've grown to respect and love movies and series from India and the British Carribean. Netflix and Amazon has some of these wonderful series... I'm awful at remembering titles, just search and enjoy.

I just ran across this article: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/11/why-british-police-shows-are-better/616479/?utm_source=pocket-newtab
Seems relevant to the topic at hand! I'm sure many here would agree with the author.

Yes, big fan. Have you watched Happy Valley? Great show - 2 seasons. A bit dark.

I think the third series is being written at the moment.
Good news! Thanks for the update. :)
"Two Weeks to Live" recent started airing here on Crave, and I love it! It's totally bonkers.
Filing started on a new series of Father Brown recently and a spin-off, The Sister Boniface Mysteries is in the works.
We're a little late to the party, but we stumbled upon Line of Duty in our house and good grief it is absolutely belting!! Love it
Loved The Tunnel - English-French collaboration.
I've always been scare to watch it because it's a refried version of The Bridge.
